Biography
“Louis Wishart is a Sydney-based Composer and Musician, whose sound synthesises free-improvisation aesthetics, with a focus on resonance, intimacy with sound and organic processes. Louis has been recognised with severasl accolades, being accepted into the Ostrava Days institute in 2023 and 2025, being awarded the Encouragement Award for the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra's Young Composer Award, and most recently being accepted into Ensemble Offspring's Hatched Academy, where he will have his new work "Children of Aurora" premiered at the Sydney Opera house. Graduated in 2023 from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music (Composition), First Class Honors, has studied closely under leading Australian composition such as Liza Lim, Carl Vine and Gerard Brophy, refining his unique approached to aleatoric music. Louis is an internationally performed composer, with premieres by ensembles such "AURA Ensemble'' from the Houston Moores School of Music, Ensemble Garage in Cologne, Ostravska Banda in Ostrava, as well as the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Orchestra and New Music Ensemble.
Louis focuses his time towards his new music ensemble "Scalp", which debuted in January and July 2025, premiering a Louis' chamber work "Are Ye Then With God?", as well as his arrangement of the punk operetta "John Gavanti". Scalp is set to return in 2026 for a brand new season, performing new works by Louis, as well as other members of the ensemble, and exciting works from the contemporary music canon (follow @scalpensemble on instagram for updates and more information).
Louis also performs regularly with bands in the Sydney Music Scene, notably with the industrial punk band "Angel Grindr '' which has performed alongside the likes of “Justice Yeldham”, which he co-runs with fellow composer and musician Clancy Reynolds. Angel Grindr were recently commissioned by Backstage Music AU to compose a new work to be performed at their concert "IMPOSTO", to which they performed a newly composed live soundtrack to the film "Palindrome" by New York experimentalist Hollis Frampton.
